Making Multi-Payments

Multi-Payment Tip

We all know there is a date each month when your payment is due. But did you know that there is also a date when your statement is generated and often this is the same date when your credit card company reports the details of your account to the credit bureaus? Details such as Credit Limit and Current Balance.

If you are rebuilding and have a card with a relatively low credit limit, this technique will help. As you charge on your card during the month, make payments to keep paying down your balance. You need not wait until the due date. The utilization that gets reported is only based on the snapshot at the time the statement is generated and reported. Charge some then pay it. Just keep an eye on your utilization and know what that is so you can pay enough to get your balance down to 20% or less than your credit limit.
